Cul-de-sac deaths were natural causes - police

Emergency services investigated after the deaths on properties on Gatesgarth Close in Scarborough

Two men who died within days of each other in a Scarborough cul-de-sac, triggering an evacuation of nearby residents, passed away from natural causes, police have confirmed.

North Yorkshire Police were called to Gatesgarth Close after the death of a 49-year-old man on 21 May. The second man, aged 69, died five days later in an adjoining property.

A post-mortem concluded there were no "environmental factors" at the properties which could have contributed to the deaths of the men.

The force said there would be "no further involvement by the police in relation to their deaths".

A spokesperson thanked residents for their patience during "the period of disruption and uncertainty" as officers worked at the scene.

They also said the force's "thoughts remain with the families of the deceased".

Correction 16 June: This article originally said that the 69-year-old man died on 19 May and the second man, aged 49, died two days later. It was updated to say that the 49-year-old man died on 21 May and the second man, aged 69, died five days later.
