A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after another man was stabbed in Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire Police said it was called to Abbotsford Drive, in the St Ann's area, at about 12:50 GMT on Monday.

A 20-year-old man was found with stab wounds and was treated by paramedics, but he died a short time later.

The force confirmed on Tuesday morning that a 20-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of murder, and reiterated its appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

The victim's family is being supported by specially trained officers, the force added.

There will continue to be an increased police presence in the area as investigations continue, but Ch Supt Nick Waldram said the force believed "this to be an isolated incident with no wider risk to the public".

He added: "Our thoughts remain with the man's family during this incredibly difficult time. They are being supported by specially trained officers.

"Detectives are already working to understand exactly what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident.

"They want to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything which could assist our inquiries.

"No matter how insignificant you think your information may be, we want to hear from you."

The force added it would like to speak to anyone who was near or around the underpass between Robin Hood Chase and Abbotsford Drive.
