A woman has been convicted of killing another woman in Aberdeen after they confronted each other over infidelity claims.

Dionne Wilson, 31, stabbed Sara Irvine, 34, to death in April last year.

A trial heard that Ms Irvine's boyfriend told her he was having sex with Wilson, leading to a violent row at a property in the city's Auchinleck Road.

Wilson denied murder, claiming self-defence. Jurors at the High Court in Edinburgh convicted her of the lesser charge of culpable homicide.

Defence advocate Mark Stewart KC had urged jurors to acquit Wilson of the murder charge, arguing that there was not sufficient evidence available.

The court heard that Ms Irvine had become angry and was "very hostile" to Wilson over the infidelity claims.

Wilson said that Ms Irvine threw her onto a couch where a fight took place, before she stabbed Ms Irvine once in the chest.

Lord Mulholland said: "This is a very serious charge. Stabbing them with a knife and the victim bleeding to death.

"There will be an inevitable lengthy sentence of imprisonment."

He deferred sentence for reports to the High Court in Livingston on 6 January.

Wilson was remanded in custody.

Det Insp Gavin Fleming, the senior investigating officer with Police Scotland, said: "This was a shocking and violent attack that resulted in the horrific death of a much-loved young woman.

"While this conviction cannot change what has happened, I hope it brings some kind of closure for Sarah's family and friends, who remain absolutely devastated by what has happened."
