Salvaged doors used in Camden Market and re-painted by street artists in 2014 are coming up for sale at auction.

The colourful set of 15 will be sold at RWB auctions in Wiltshire and includes art by Captain Kris, The Real Dill, Fan HC and Secle Style.

The doors were taken from sheds erected in London's Camden Market following a fire in 2009. They were then painted by street artists, but in 2015 the buildings were demolished.

RWB Auctions said a local private collector, who owned the 15 surviving doors, had contacted the auction house in 2023 about selling them.

'Artists chose designs'

Auctioneer Edd Thomas said the sheds "did the job, but lacked any of the unique character which drew people to Camden which had become a mecca for street art".

"Roll forward to 2014, and ‘The Real Art of Street Art’ secured permission to repaint the market sheds," he said.

"Street artists, not just from London, but from all over the UK and internationally took part.

“Each artist was left to choose their own design, and none who took part were paid, and the same basic shed front was given to each to reimagine.

"Less than two years later a decision was made to redevelop the site and the wooden sheds were taken down.”

The site is now a shopping centre with luxury apartments.

Mr Thomas said the doors "come and go through" the auction world but never in a collection as big as this.

"It's unique," he added.

The doors will be put on public display from 23 May until 1 June at The View Gallery. During this time they will be put up for auction online.
