Acid reflux patient hails 'life-changing' implant

A woman who suffered the debilitating effects of severe acid reflux has described a new implant as "amazing" and "life changing".

Danielle Harding, 30, could not eat without enduring severe coughing and pain because of gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD).

She was one of the first patients in the UK to receive the implant of a silicone ball into her upper stomach wall.

Fern Britton stalker given 10-year restraining order

A man with a "crush" on TV presenter Fern Britton has been given a 10-year restraining order following a "prolonged campaign" against her.

James Haviland, 63, admitted stalking Ms Britton without fear, alarm or distress between November 2021 and September 2023 in Wadebridge, Cornwall.

He sent the former This Morning host "unwanted" flowers and stayed in the cottage she rents out in the county.

DNA search brings siblings together after 70 years

Three half-siblings, in their 70s, have met for the first time after finding each other through a DNA match on a family history website.

Josie Morey, 76, from the Isle of Wight, was given a genealogy kit for Christmas by her granddaughter to find out more about her mixed-race heritage.

It led to matches with 77-year-old Jim McLoughlin in Liverpool and Lorraine Williams, 74, in Canada.

Residents evacuated after suspected e-scooter fire

Residents were forced to leave their homes overnight after a house fire thought to have been caused by an e-scooter battery spread to seven neighbouring properties.

The blaze broke out in a three-storey home in Hill Park Road, Gosport, on Wednesday shortly before 21:40 BST.

The fire service said it was most likely started by an e-scooter that was left on charge overnight.

Historical Solent sea forts each sell for more than £1m

Two sea forts that were built to deter a French invasion in the 19th Century have each been sold at auction for more than £1m.

The pair, both previously converted into luxury hotels, are among four so-called Palmerston's Follies - artificial island fortifications in the Solent between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.

No Man's Fort sold for £1,120,000 while Spitbank Fort fetched £1,010,000 at the Savills sale on Tuesday.
