Increase in commercial waste charges at tip
- Published
Charges for the disposal of commercial waste at a southern tip are set to rise next week.
Some fees at the Southern Civic Amenity Site in Port St Mary will rise more than 9% from 1 April.
A spokesman for the facility said the price hikes were necessary due to “increases in waste disposal charges and transportation costs”.
Under the revised charges, the disposal of plasterboard will see the steepest rise of 9.7%, while rubble and inert waste will both go up by 8.6%.
Wood disposal will go up 6.8%, green waste by 5.6%, and glass by 2.5%, however the cost of getting rid of cardboard is due to remain static.
The site spokesman said as the weighing scales of vehicles went up in 22lb (10kg) increments, the price rises would follow suit.
The facility is funded by through payments from the five local authorities in the south of the island and managed by a local board.
