A loggerhead turtle dubbed "Barnacle Bill", found washed up on a beach in Guernsey following Storm Ciarán, has now been cut free.

The turtle has been freed from barnacles which weighed up to 885g (1lb 15oz).

Steve Byrne, GSPCA manager said:"Local Vet and President of the GSPCA John Knight arrived at the GSPCA not long after Barnacle Bill’s arrival.

“With his team they managed to get all the barnacles off 'Barnacleless Bill' and provide a range of antibiotic treatments and has now been placed in an intensive care unit and is very lively swimming around in the new enclosure," he added.

“The winds and the storm have sadly caused a lot of damage and our wildlife have really struggled but we are here 24/7 when needed," Mr Byrne said.
