Councillors have agreed to include a £3.1m housing project in an ongoing programme to deliver new "affordable" homes in part of Derbyshire.

The development will see 11 properties built in Park Lane, Pinxton, subject to planning permission.

Bolsover District Council had not originally included the site within its £36.2m Bolsover Homes Scheme.

However at a cabinet meeting on Wednesday, councillors said there was a demand for properties in the area to tackle a "housing crisis and shortage of council properties" in the district.

The Pinxton project, which will include four two-bedroom houses and seven three-bedroom houses, will be built by the authority's construction company Dragonfly Development Ltd, the Local Democracy Reporting Service, external said.

Sandra Peake, cabinet member for housing, said, "We know there is a demand for good quality, two and three-bedroom properties in the area, so we have listened and are acting upon this by building more properties."

Work is already under way to build 40 new properties in Shirebrook and Whaley Thorns, and on a £9.6m development to build the new Roseland Park and crematorium, near Shirebrook.

The authority has also approved the construction or purchase of 148 new council properties in Whitwell, Whaley Thorns, Clowne, Creswell, Bolsover, South Normanton, Shirebrook, Glapwell and Pinxton - some of which are completed.
