Woman dies and man critically injured in crash

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash

A woman has died and a man has been critically injured in a crash on a main road, police have said.
The woman, aged in her 80s, was taken to hospital along with a 70-year-old man after their car crashed on the A390 in St Austell, Cornwall, at 15:55 BST on Saturday, said officers. No other people or vehicles were involved.
The man and woman in the car had sustained life-threatening injuries and the woman, from the St Austell area, died from her injuries at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth on Sunday, said the Devon and Cornwall force.
The man, from the Newquay area, remains in hospital.
The road was closed for three-and-a-half hours for an investigation by police who are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
