A wooden sculpture of a sleeping Gruffalo in a forest near Bodmin, appears to have been vandalised for a second time.

Forestry England said the carving of the popular children’s book character at Cardinham Woods recently had its ear and horn pulled off.

The ear was replaced but was torn off again last Wednesday.

Rangers have described the damage as “really upsetting”, particularly for families who travel to see the Gruffalo sculptures or go on the Gruffalo party trail.

They are asking visitors to help keep an eye on the sculpture and report any further damage to the ranger team.

The carving is one of six sculptures on the Lady Vale walking trail in Cardinham Woods featuring the famous Gruffalo and other characters from Julia Donaldson’s popular stories.
