Works to reduce flooding in a town's subway will see it closed for nearly five weeks.

Network Rail will carry out the works on the subway between Horley High Street and Station Approach between 29 July and 30 August.

After the works are completed, a second stage will see the subway refurbished, with better lighting and artwork planned.

Reigate and Banstead Borough Council said the refurbishment work , externalwould take place in 2025.

The works, which include drainage works and the installation of new pumps, will also mean the closure of the nearby High Street Car Park for one week from 5 August.

A council spokesperson said: "We want to make the subway easier to use for pedestrians, cyclists and people with disabilities by creating a safe, well-lit and more welcoming space, improve the condition of the structure and address drainage and flooding issues."
