The family of a man who died in hospital two weeks after being assaulted has paid tribute to him.

Nigel Mazs, 59, was found with serious injuries on Regent Road, Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, on 22 December.

A man from the town has been charged with causing grievous bodily harm while a second man, who was previously arrested for the same offence, has been released on bail.

Mr Mazs' family described him as an "amazing father, grandfather and brother".

"Dad was loved by so many people, he made a positive impact in everyone's life with his infectious laugh," a statement issued through Norfolk Constabulary said.

"As a family we would like to thank the neuroscience team at Addenbrooke's Hospital [in Cambridge] for all the amazing work they did with dad.

"We would appreciate our privacy being respected at this traumatic time."

Police said Mr Mazs was targeted inside a communal area of a block of flats on Malakoff Close.

He was treated on Regent Road by paramedics before being taken to hospital, where he died on 4 January.

A further hearing will be held on 25 April.
