A recycling centre had to be evacuated after a large goat caused a bit of a rucus.

The animal ran riot around Pitsea Recycling Centre in Essex on Friday.

The county council said people were evacuated "for their safety" and "staff gently detained [the goat] once he had completed his inspection of the site".

It is not known why the animal decided to pay a visit to the recycling centre, but those wishing to use the facility are required to pre-book a slot - and the goat had definitely not booked in.

Leigh Perry, manager of the nearby Essex Horse and Pony Protection Society, helped round-up the goat, which belongs to one of her neighbours.

"It took a couple of us as the goat was not very co-operative," she said.
