Police have named a man they want to speak to over a fatal hit-and-run crash.

A 54-year-old pedestrian was found unresponsive and later died after being hit by a car on Newton Road in Great Barr, Birmingham.

Emergency services were sent to the scene at about 21:00 BST on 8 September.

West Midlands Police said on Wednesday the force wanted to speak with Francesko Gajta, 24, in relation to the crash.

Person of interest

Sgt Julie Lyman, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, urged Mr Gajta to "do the right thing".

“Following extensive inquiries and developments in the investigation, I am now in a position to name Francesko as a person of interest that we wish to speak to," she said.

“I would appeal directly to Francesko to do the right thing and get in touch with us.

"I would also make urge anyone who knows where Francesko is or is in contact with him to get in touch.”

The crash happened near the junction of Newton Road and Hailwood Drive.

A BMW believed to have been involved in the collision was recovered nearby, officers said.
