Van driver dies in A2 crash

Kent Police had told motorists to expect "lengthy" delays

A man has died in a crash on the A2 in Kent on Friday, police have said.

Kent Police said it was called to the coastbound carriageway near Cobham at about 16:15 BST following a collision involving a lorry and a van.

The driver of the van, a 50-year-old man, died at the scene and the passenger, a 20-year-old man, was taken to hospital by air ambulance and is in a "serious condition".

The driver of the lorry had minor injuries, Kent Police said.

Officers from the force's Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

National Highways said the road had been closed in both directions between the M2 near Strood and the A227 near Gravesend.

The westbound carriageway reopened on Friday night. On Saturday morning National Highways said the eastbound road had also reopened.

Kent Police had told motorists to expect "lengthy" delays and to try and use other routes where possible.
