Photography competition to highlight local icons
- Published
Keen photographers in Jersey can showcase their artistic talents in a competition, the States says.
The States said this year's theme was Local Icons, which was calling for artists' "unique interpretation" on any subject, whether it was historic buildings, beloved landmarks, or people.
Competition bosses said winners and runners-up would be selected from three categories: children up to 10-years-old, young people aged 11 to 17, and adults aged 18 and over.
Winners in each category could receive a £100 voucher, and runners-up would be awarded a £25 voucher, said the States.
'Fantastic opportunity'
The winning photographs would also be showcased in the Royal Square, St Helier, during Democracy Week between 23 to 27 September, and displayed in the States Assembly buildings for a year.
Deputy Carina Alves, chair of the Public Awareness and Education Sub-Committee, described the competition as a "fantastic opportunity for islanders to showcase what Jersey means to them".
"As we approach the next election, it's crucial to reflect on what matters most to us," she said.
"I encourage everyone, of all ages, to participate and highlight the local icons that are special to them."
To enter, digital photos should be emailed to StatesGreffe@gov.je by 17:00 BST on 6 September.
The email should also include the following details: name, age, parental permission (for entrants under 18) and the title of the photo.
