Dozens of flats have been evacuated after a ceiling collapsed in an underground car park.

Firefighters were called to the incident on Portland Square in St Pauls, Bristol, at 18:45 BST on Tuesday.

About 40 residents were asked to leave their homes while engineers assessed the building. Three hours later, the flats were deemed safe for people to re-enter.

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue Service said: "Thankfully, no one was found to be injured during the incident."

The authority's spokesperson confirmed crews from Temple and Hicks Gate attended.

They added: "The services’ urban search and rescue dog, Buddy, and handler, firefighter Tully, searched the collapsed underground car park."
