More teams than ever have entered a fundraising pétanque tournament to raise money for a Jersey charity.

There were 38 teams playing at Weighbridge on Thursday and more than 100 people took part to support brain injury charity Headway.

Headway has branches across the UK and Channel Islands and runs services that include rehabilitation programmes, carer support and social re-integration.

The tournament raised £4,685 for the charity.

‘Essential funds’

Sarah Le Page, fundraising and marketing manager for Headway Jersey, said the turnout was “fantastic”.

“It raises essential funds for the charity to ensure we are able to continue providing services we do,” she added.

Each team spent 10 minutes playing pétanque, which involved scoring points by having boules closer to the target than the opponent after all boules have been thrown.

Integritas Wealth Partners sponsored the event so it could go ahead.

Managing director Edward Loader said they wanted to support Headway Jersey because it was a charity that "affects a lot of people".

Mr Loader added "it is for people affected by all sorts of brain injuries" and the number of people Headway Jersey helps is more than most people think.
