A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a teenager was injured in a serious assault, Avon and Somerset Police has confirmed.

Officers were called to Pavey Road in Hartcliffe, Bristol, just before 16:00 BST on Wednesday after reports of a teenager with a "stab-like wound."

Police said the victim was taken to hospital where they remained in a serious but stable condition, with injuries not thought to be life-threatening or life changing. Their next of kin has been informed.

A cordon remains in place at the scene and members of the community can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area, the force added.

"We understand incidents of this nature are alarming but we would like to reassure people that a full investigation will be carried out," it said.

"High visibility reassurance patrols will be put in place over the coming days and residents are encouraged to speak to officers from our Neighbourhood Policing Team if they have any concerns."

Officers have urged anyone with information which might aid their investigation to come forward.
