Police have issued an appeal after a scout hut was raided and badly vandalised in Doncaster.

Several high-value items were smashed or stolen from the hut in Doncaster Road, Askern, overnight on Monday.

The hub was the fruition of 10 years of fundraising, South Yorkshire Police said, and the break-in had caused upset within the local community.

The force has released CCTV images of a group of people they would like to speak to in connection with the burglary and criminal damage.

Among the items stolen were space heaters, tents, a barbecue and a flat-pack kitchen which was waiting to be installed.

Officers said the burglars had also removed copper piping inside the hut which had caused substantial damage to the interior.

PC Sam Egan-Wyer said: “We know how important it was to the Askern community and the amount of upset the incident has caused.

“We are working hard to identify those responsible and bring them to justice."

Anyone with information is asked to contact South Yorkshire Police.
