Boy, 14, arrested over fake Scottish banknotes

Police appealed for anyone who had had unwittingly accepted fake Scottish notes to get in touch

A 14-year-old boy has been arrested after counterfeit Scottish banknotes with a face value totalling £4,000 were seized by North Yorkshire Police.

Officers had worked with York BID Street Rangers to recover and seize the notes on Wednesday, a force spokesperson said.

The teenager had since been arrested in St Helen’s Square in York in connection with the discovery and had been released on bail.

Police appealed for businesses in York to come forward if they believed they had unwittingly accepted the fake cash.

Street Rangers deal with anti-social behaviour, shoplifters and other disorderly behaviour in the city centre.

They are funded by local businesses through the York BID project, police said.
