Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murder following the death of a man in Leicester.

Officers on patrol found a man fatally injured in Modbury Avenue in the Mowmacre Hill area at about 00:10 BST on Monday.

Leicestershire Police said the detained men, 19 and 25, were in custody.

Officers remain in the area to carry out further inquiries and provide reassurance to the community, the force added.

Witnesses sought

Det Ch Insp Tim Lindley, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit's major crime team, said: "Despite the arrests our inquiries to establish the circumstances of what happened are continuing and I'd ask anyone who can help us to come forward.

"The area where the man was found and where an assault is believed to have occurred is residential and I'd ask people to check their doorbell and CCTV cameras if they have one.

"I'd also like to speak to anyone who was driving in the area and has a dashcam in their vehicle.

"In addition, I'd like to speak to anyone who heard or saw anything suspicious or unusual either late Sunday evening or in the very early hours of yesterday morning."
