Phase two of the regeneration project aims to improve traffic in Farnham

Drivers in Surrey are being warned of two weeks of disruption in Farnham when town centre improvement works take place mid-February.

This is the second phase of a regeneration plan aiming to improve road quality and make public areas more accessible.

Surrey County Council said the changes would allow a right turn at the bottom of Castle Street and two-way traffic on The Borough between Castle Street and West Street.

The traffic islands at the top of Downing Street will also be removed and replaced with temporary crossing points.

Drivers have been advised to check traffic information before travelling to find the best route and leave extra time for journeys.

A diversion route will be in place for the overnight road closures.

The council said pedestrians could use pavements during the overnight road closures and asked cyclists to walk bikes on the pavements while the road was closed.

Early and late buses will be marshalled through the overnight road closures, so services will continue as usual, it added.

The regeneration plan is being rolled out in 12 phases and is expected to finish in autumn 2026.

Other upcoming works include improvements on Riverside Walk between Brightwells Yard and the Riverside car parks.

This is expected to start in the spring and will last about 11 weeks.
