Monday morning commuters faced a miserable start to the working week after a six-vehicle crash caused long motorway tailbacks.

National Highways said three out of four lanes on the northbound M6 were closed between 31 and 31A, near Preston in Lancashire.

The agency posted on X, external that its officers were at the scene of the collision, which happened shortly before 07:00 GMT.

Lancashire Police said one person suffered minor injuries in the crash.

Shortly before 09:00, the force said on X that all lanes had reopened.
