A man has been ordered to do community service after a dog attacked two children on Eastbourne's seafront.

The girls, aged six and seven, needed hospital treatment for bites to the arms and buttocks after being attacked by a rottweiler on 27 May 2024, Hastings Magistrates' Court heard.

Kim Feldmesser, of Bracken Road in Eastbourne, had pleaded guilty to being in charge of a dangerously out of control dog and was ordered on Monday to do 200 hours of unpaid work and pay £500 to each victim.

The 65-year-old's daughter, who owns the rottweiler, has 21 days to appeal a dog destruction order.

Magistrates heard Feldmesser was remorseful when interviewed by police after his arrest.

Amy Fraser, prosecuting, said there were four children present at the time of the attack, which occurred near the Holywell Tea Chalet.
