A rural road in Cumbria is being closed for seven weeks for "important improvements" to a culvert.

The work to replaced the aged brick and stone structure at Blackhall Wood, near Durdar, with a durable, precast concrete one, begins on Tuesday.

A temporary bridge will be installed downstream of the existing crossing to maintain access for vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.

Cumberland Council said access would be provided via the adjacent field, with diversion signage in place.

Work is expected to be complete by October, with updates given closer to the time.

The council said the full road closure was essential to ensure the safety of both the public and construction personnel.

It thanked residents and road users for their patience and cooperation while "important improvements" were carried out.
