A man who threatened and assaulted members of the public while walking around naked from the waist down and carrying a knife has been arrested, police said.
Wiltshire Police said the man was reported to be in Dark Lane, Malmesbury, at about 13:00 BST. It is understood he walked along Bristol Street and Bremilham Road.
Det Supt Angela Shipp said that, as the incident took place on a busy Saturday afternoon in the town centre, police believed there would be a "number of witnesses and potentially more victims we haven't yet spoken to".
The man was provided with medical treatment at the scene and is in police custody.
Det Supt Shipp said: "We appreciate the significant amount of community concern that this incident will have caused, and we are treating it incredibly seriously."
A police presence will remain in the town centre while enquiries are carried out, with no serious injuries reported.
Anyone who witnessed the incident is being asked to contact 101.
