A police officer who crashed into a parked car in a city has been told to undertake a driver training course.

CCTV footage captured the moment a marked Essex Police vehicle drove into the stationary black car in Mersea Road, Colchester.

The incident, which took place just after 19:30 GMT on 11 November, resulted in no serious injuries and the officer will face no action, the BBC understands.

A spokesperson for Essex Police said: "Details were exchanged. The driver of the police car will undertake a driver training course."

In the clip, which was seen by the BBC, the black car was shown parked partially on the pavement, facing the direction of oncoming traffic.

After entering the frame, the police car crashes into the stationary vehicle before mounting its left-side and coming to an abrupt stop.

The officer then exited his car before seemingly inspecting the damage caused to the parked vehicle.

The BBC had asked Essex Police what had caused the officer to collide with the car but received no answer.
