Pulp among headliners at home city festival

Pulp will play the Tramlines music festival for the first time in 2025

Sheffield band Pulp will headline the opening night of the Tramlines music festival next summer.

The Britpop stars, fronted by Jarvis Cocker, admitted it had "taken a while for the stars to align" as it would mark their first appearance at their home city festival.

The Common People performers will take to the Main Stage on the first night of the festival, which will run from Friday 25-Sunday 27 July at Hillsborough Park.

Other big names at next year's 16th Tramlines festival include Rotherham indie band The Reytons and Leicester rockers Kasabian.

The band's drummer Nick Banks told the BBC: “It’s taken a while for the stars to align but I love Tramlines.

"I think it’s an amazing festival and it’ll be great to be able to get up on the stage and show them how it’s done."

Timm Cleasby, Tramlines operations director, said: "It’s absolutely massive to have Pulp headlining Friday, and even more special to have them curating the whole day - it’s a real celebration of what Sheffield’s all about."

Formed in 1978, Pulp played extensively around Sheffield at venues like The Leadmill and The Limit before shooting to fame in the 1990s with hit singles including Disco 2000 and Mis-Shapes.

Their debut at Tramlines follows the band reforming in 2023 for a reunion tour which included two triumphant homecoming gigs at Sheffield Arena.

Pulp’s picks to join them on the Main Stage include indie band Spiritualized and Paris-based indie-folk trio Oracle Sisters.

The Reytons scored their first ever UK number one album with their self-release What's Rock And Roll in 2023. They will headline the Main Stage on Saturday.

Other notable acts performing across the weekend will be Franz Ferdinand, Rizzle Kicks, The Last Dinner Party, Sigrid, Scouting For Girls and Jake Bugg, with Kasabian headlining the final night.

Pre-sale for weekend and day tickets will be live from 18:00 GMT on Thursday, with general sale starting at 12:00 GMT on Friday.
