Police have urged drivers to take extra care in icy conditions following two road crashes in the north east of Scotland.

Officers were called to a field in New Deer, Aberdeenshire, at about 08:30 after a bus came off the B9170 and got stuck on a grassy slope.

There were no passengers on the bus and the driver was not hurt.

Separately, one man was taken to hospital following a crash on the A950 near New Pitsligo at about 06:15.

Stagecoach North Scotland said in a statement: "We can confirm that one of our vehicles operating out of service was involved in a minor incident this morning due to icy roads.

"There were no passengers on board and no injuries were reported. Safety is our absolute priority, and we will investigate the full circumstances involved."

Police Scotland said there were some frozen roads in and around Elgin and urged drivers to be cautious.

A spokesperson said: "Increase the distance between you and the vehicle ahead and allow extra time for your journey."
