A city museum has appealed for volunteers following news it will remain open five days a week.

Peterborough Museum & Art Gallery already has 120 volunteers but wants more people to join who have an interest in history and the arts.

Peterborough City Council has proposed reducing the museum's opening hours to save money as part of its budget for 2025-26.

But Dennis Jones, the council's Labour leader, has said there will be no immediate changes to its timetable.

The library particularly wants volunteers in the run-up to its "showstopper exhibition" of Doctor Who artefacts from 3 May: Adventures in Time & Space.

Volunteers would also help organise events and guided tours, carry out research, as well as help with running its in-house cafe, Squires Coffee House.

A museum spokesperson said: "We truly appreciate the invaluable contributions of our volunteers.

"Their dedication not only supports our staff but also enhances the experience for our visitors."

The museum is due to be open six days a week during the Doctor Who exhibition.
