New speed camera could be used next year

States of Jersey Police could start using new speed camera equipment in January 2025, a scrutiny panel has heard.
Constable Mark Labey, who sits on the Children, Education and Home Affairs scrutiny panel, said 60% of the complaints he received from parishioners in Grouville related to speeding.
He said there were limitations on how current speed traps could be used.
Chief Officer Robin Smith said the new camera was expensive but more effective than the speed guns used by honorary police.
"We will focus on the high harm and risk locations," he said.
"We have good data now where we will deploy a camera into those locations properly calibrated.
"Maybe the first deployment will be in early January 2025."
