Man charged with causing death of female cyclist

A man has appeared in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving after a female cyclist in her 70s died following a collision.

The woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after being in collision with a van on Lisieux Way, Taunton, on Monday morning but later died. Her family has been told.

Michael Atkinson, 37, of Bacon Drive, Taunton, Somerset, was also charged with death by driving whilst disqualified and driving with alcohol over the prescribed limit.

Atkinson appeared at North Somerset Magistrates' Court where he was remanded into custody to next appear at Taunton Crown Court on 11 April.
