Driver killed after early morning crash on M74

A man has died after a crash on the M74 in Lanarkshire.

The collision happened at Junction 5 at about 06.55 on Monday and involved a silver BMW 320D.

A 62-year-old, who has not been named, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police Scotland have appealed for anyone with information about the incident to contact officers, external.

Sgt Gemma Blackadder said the force's thoughts were with the family and friends of the man who died.

She added: "We would ask anyone who has yet to speak to officers get in touch and review any dash-cam footage for anything that may assist with our inquiries."

The slip roads were closed to allow for investigations to be carried out before re-opening more than six hours later.
