Pair's three-legged challenge for Children in Need

BBC Look North presenter Amy Garcia and Lindsey Burrow, wife of rugby league legend Rob Burrow, are to walk three-legged for over 30 miles in Yorkshire to raise money for Children in Need.

Amy and Lindsey plan to take to three legs and walk arm-in-arm on 13-14 November as part of the BBC's Thousand Mile Challenge Extra Leg.

Nationally, the challenge will see BBC local radio presenters walk a total of 1,000 miles while three-legged on 4-5 November.

Lindsey, whose husband died in 2024, four years after being diagnosed with Motor Neurone Disease, said: "Rob believed in the power of community and kindness. This challenge is a way to carry that spirit forward and support children who need it most."

Since Rob's death, Lindsey has continued to raise awareness in his name and has taken part in several major events for charity.

"I've run a number of marathons for charity, but this is my first challenge for Children in Need and will be a unique test," she said.

During the challenge next month, Lindsey and Amy are expected to visit Castleford, Selby, Barnsley, Wakefield and Huddersfield.

Amy said: "We are both mums and passionate about trying to help make life better for children.

"We wanted to do something that not only raises money, but also brings communities together so we can meet the people of Yorkshire.

"Walking through our towns and villages with Lindsey for such an important cause feels incredibly special."

Meanwhile, aiming to complete their Thousand Mile Challenge Extra Leg earlier in the month, BBC Radio Sheffield newsreader Nick Wilson and weekend breakfast presenter Kat Cowan will walk three-legged around Meadowhall shopping centre.

BBC Radio York's Georgey Spanswick and Joanita Musisi plan to race around York's Designer Outlet, and BBC Radio Leeds presenters Gayle Lofthouse and Colson Smith, who also starred in Coronation Street, will make their three-legged journey around Leeds and Bradford.

This year's Children in Need appeal show will hit BBC One on the evening of Friday 14 November and will be presented by Paddy McGuinness and Vernon Kay.
