Major city road to be made one-way for nine months

Traffic will only be able to come down Clifford Bridge Road, towards UHCW Hospital, while the cycleway is being built

Major roadworks to allow a cycleway to be built in Coventry will see a road become one-way for nine months.
Construction of the Binley Cycleway will see a section of Clifford Bridge Road affected, with the measures taking effect from Monday until the end of May 2026.
Residents tried unsuccessfully to stop the cycleway from being built, saying the design was dangerous for motorists getting off their drives and having to move their cars over the cycleway.
The city council has said several teams will be working to ensure the cycleway is built as quickly as possible, with pedestrian routes also in place.
A diversion route for traffic will also be in place, with vehicles directed along the A46 Eastern Bypass and then down the A428 Brandon Road.

Dawn McCann, who lives close to Clifford Bridge Road, says the roadworks will have a big impact on the area's residents
But Dawn McCann, a local resident who lives close to the road, said the work will have a big effect on the area.
"The impact on traffic will be colossal; the council could've waited another week until the half-term holiday, which would've halved the initial traffic and given people a week to get used to the fact that they need to make a detour," she said.
"But obviously the council are not that considerate."
The city council confirmed the work will start on Monday.
Trees to be planted
"We will start work on the section along Clifford Bridge Road, between the A46 link road roundabout and the junction with Brinklow Road (near St. Bartholomew's Church)," it said on its website.
"This section will require a diversion, but traffic towards the hospital will be maintained. Traffic towards the city centre will need to follow the diversion route via the A46 as shown on the plan.
"Several teams [will be] working on site, and the closure of one lane for phase two will ensure we can complete the work as soon as possible. Pedestrian routes will be available throughout both phases."
Once complete, we will plant 32 new trees along the route.
Public transport will be diverted for the phase two work. For the latest service information visit tfwm.org.uk, external
