An eight-year-old boy from Bristol has signed with the academy programme at Cardiff City.

Calvin from Almondsbury has been playing football since he was three years old.

Aged four, Calvin joined Coalpit Heath Junior Football Club before gaining attention from professional clubs such as Bristol City, Southampton, Bristol Rovers and Cardiff City.

Calvin said he had "felt torn" when choosing between the different teams interested in him.

Calvin said he was "really excited" to have a new kit and meet new team mates, and hoped he could play for England one day.

When asked how he felt about signing with Cardiff City's academy, he said he was "a bit scared" to start a new season as it would be his "first time playing with a professional team".

Living by the rules of "never give up and always work hard," he said he hoped his new team mates would also "be happy and have fun".

He can play striker, right wing and in defence, but Calvin said his favourite position was striker as he was able to "pass to different people" and "score when they pass it back".

'Very excited'

Calvin's football career has already seen him win lots of trophies, and he said his friends at school felt "very excited" for him.

He admitted he felt nervous about playing against "good teams" such as Chelsea and Man City, but said it was "not all about winning but about playing the game and having fun".
