A man in his 40s has been arrested following a large drugs seizure at Rosslare Europort in the Republic of Ireland.

Irish Revenue said its officers seized about 289kg of herbal cannabis, 73kg of cannabis resin and 3kg of cocaine at the County Wexford harbour.

They said the drugs have an estimated value of €6.4m (£5.5m).

The suspect is currently being held under drug trafficking legislation at a Garda (Irish police) station in the county.

The drugs were discovered when an accompanied freight unit which had earlier disembarked a ferry from Dunkirk, France, was stopped and searched.

Irish Revenue said the discovery was made as a result of risk profiling and with the assistance of their mobile x-ray scanner and a detector dog.
