Twenty-two beach huts have been broken into in a seaside town, police said.

The huts positioned on the lower promenade along the beach in Gorleston-on-Sea, Norfolk, were targeted overnight between Saturday and Sunday, Norfolk Police said.

The force added that among the items stolen were a pair of binoculars and a stove.

PC Isabel Carroll said: "There will be extra patrols taking place in the area and we are appealing to members of the public who may have seen something suspicious, as well as to beach hut owners we may not have spoken to yet."

Great Yarmouth Borough Council said it owns some of the huts, which were rented out annually.

"All of the damaged huts have been made safe," the local authority said.

''Sadly, this is not the first time the huts have been targeted and, with partners, the council is considering what additional measures it might take to improve security in the area.''
