The second phase of the demolition of a landmark power station has been given the go-ahead.

The Fiddler's Ferry site, in Cheshire, was closed down in March 2020, after 50 years of operation.

Last December, four of the eight cooling towers were demolished, and the next stage of demolition - including a number of buildings on the site - was approved by Warrington Council this week.

The remaining four cooling towers will be demolished at a later date.

The entire demolition of the site, which sits near the River Mersey, between Warrington and Halton, is expected to be completed over a couple of years.

Commercial and residential projects are planned for the site.
