A 41-year-old man has been charged over the death of two teenagers following a three-vehicle crash.

Connor Lapworth, 18, and Corey Mavin, 15, both from Blyth, died following the crash on the A192 Hartford Bank, in Cramlington, Northumberland, last year.

The man has been charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving and two counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He is due in Mid and South East Northumberland Magistrates Court on Thursday.

'Tragic'

The teenagers and the 41-year-old man were in a Suzuki Vitara when it collided with two other cars.

Police were called on to the scene at 21:30 GMT on 22 December.

Another occupant of the Suzuki, a 17-year-old boy, was also injured.

A 36-year-old woman, who was driving another car involved in the crash, was also hurt.

Both were discharged from hospital.

Sgt Russell Surrey, of Northumbria Police, said: “Our thoughts are firmly with the families and loved ones of Connor and Corey at this devastating time, but also those who have been injured and affected by this tragic collision.”
