Girl, 7, to take on walk in grandad's memory

A seven-year-old girl will be taking on a charity night walk in Derbyshire dressed as a superhero in memory of her grandad.
Darcy-Grace and her mum Abbie, 29, will join Ashgate Hospice's second family-friendly Superhero Night Walk in Queen’s Park, Chesterfield, on 19 October.
They will be taking part for the second time for Abbie’s dad Dave, who was cared for by the hospice before he died from lung cancer last year, aged 77.
Abbie, from Chesterfield, said: "He was told he had about four to six months left with us but unfortunately after just three and a half weeks he died with me by his side."
Abbie added: “As a daddy’s girl this hit me so hard, and it was a huge blow to us all. Everything just happened so quickly.
“Because of the hospice, my dad was able to be at home with his family, which is exactly where he wanted to be."
Dave, who was from Clay Cross, had planned to join the pair at the walk in 2023 but died on 10 September before it took place.
Abbie added: “Darcy-Grace was the light and soul of his life. They had the most perfect relationship – the sort you would dream of having with grandparents."
She said at the walk last year "everyone who was there was there for a reason and we all walked together in memory of our loved ones".
The pair will join hundreds of other families at the walk, which is a one-mile circular route.
Children can choose to walk between one and three miles and have two hours to complete it.
