The Green Campus in Ramsgate will be eco-friendly, Thanet District Council says

A planning application has been submitted for a site to provide training, education and business opportunities for the marine and maritime sector in east Kent.

The Green Campus is proposed for land near Military Road near the Port of Ramsgate.

It will consist of buildings which are all eco-friendly, running completely on electricity rather than gas, according to Thanet District Council (TDC).

The council is allocating £6.1m from the previous government's Levelling Up Fund.

The application submitted by planning firm HMY states: "The scheme aims to foster future growth and generate long term economic opportunities for the local community.

"This project will feature two workplace blocks, and an office building, which includes flexible co-working spaces and conference rooms aimed at enhancing learning and training opportunities."

The campus is set to be built in two phases, with two buildings in phase one, and the third one coming later "potentially in collaboration with a third party", according to the planning application, the Local Democracy Reporting Service says.

A spokesperson for the council said: "TDC is currently exploring a number of options for how the Green Campus could be operated.

"Each option is being assessed for financial sustainability, value for money and the social and economic benefits they will bring to the wider community."
