People in the Chippenham area of Wiltshire are being urged to be "extra vigilant" following a series of burglaries.

Wiltshire Police said jewellery and cash were stolen from properties in Lower North Wraxall and West Kingston in overnight raids.

Police said rural and remote properties north of the A420 "seem to be targeted".

PC Ashton Schorah from the force's burglary team said homeowners should consider installing CCTV.

He added they believe that the suspects are using "large vehicles" with cloned number plates and wearing "Covid-style" face masks.

The suspects are parking up in laybys and then approaching the houses on foot and entering them when empty, according to police.

"We'd urge anyone who sees a large vehicle that they do not recognise parked up to contact police straight away on 999," Mr Schorah said.

Wiltshire Police also said there may be an increased police presence in the area.
