Janey Godley cried over daughter's Bafta Scotland nomination
- Published
Ashley Storrie, the writer and star of BBC comedy Dinosaur, has shared a tearful moment with her mum Janey Godley after finding out she had been nominated for a Bafta Scotland award.
It was announced last week that Glasgow comedian Godley was receiving end-of-life care following the spread of her cancer.
Storrie told BBC Scotland she had a video call with mum and they "had a cry" when she told her about the award nominations.
She said: "This is massive for her. This is something she always wanted and she never really got the opportunity and so to be able to do it for both of us is very important."
Dinosaur will be up for four awards when the winners are announced on 17 November.
These include best actor and best writer nominations for Storrie, who plays a neurodiverse palaeontologist in the BBC Three comedy.
Storrie, who has autism, said the role enabled her to “unmask” in real life.
She said the programme differed from other shows featuring an autistic lead character because "it's not all doom and gloom".
The actor told BBC Scotland her mum was the first person she spoke to after she found out about her nomination.
She posted a screengrab of the call on Instagram, saying: "She’s probably going to kill me for how unflattering this is."
Godley also posted, saying: "I'm so proud."
Godley, 63, found viral fame with her voice-over videos of Nicola Sturgeon's Covid briefings during the pandemic.
She revealed she had ovarian cancer in November 2021.
Last week she posted on X that she was receiving palliative care in hospital and would be going into a hospice.
"It is devastating news to know I'm facing end of life, but we all come to an end sometime," she said.
