Pasty festival cancels outdoor events after storm

Some parts of the festival, which celebrates pasties and mining, have been cancelled

The outdoor parts of a Cornish pasty festival have been cancelled due to dangerous weather conditions, organisers have said.

Redruth's International Mining and Pasty Festival was due to host live music, street food and the best pasty competition, but those events have been called off due to inclement weather.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for thunderstorms covering Cornwall and Devon until 23:59 BST on Saturday.

It said some places could see "intense storms" with 20-40 mm of rain falling in less than an hour.

'Too dangerous'

Sam White, the organiser of the pasty festival, said stallholders had only just finished setting up when "the heavens opened" and they made the decision to cancel the outdoor events.

There are still some events being held in the Market Hall and the Buttermarket.

Ms White said: "We had to make a decision that it was going to be too dangerous to carry on.

"The outdoor bits we've had to cancel which is so sad, we were really excited.

"One thing we can't control when organising an event is the weather."
