Police in Exmouth have said they will take a tough stance on anti-social behaviour or assaults over the summer.

Insp Grant Leitch, Exmouth police sector leader, said: "Hot weather and excess alcohol is not a good mix, and we will deal with any anti-social behaviour or assaults in a robust manner."

There would be extra police patrols and neighbourhood officers would be on foot in the town centre and the beach area, he said.

Extra patrols have been funded by the Home Office to deal with crime hotspots, it added.

"As well as my fantastic team of local officers here in Exmouth, who are proud to serve their communities, I can also call upon extra resources from police colleagues in places such as Exeter and south Devon," said Mr Leitch.

"We also have specialist teams force-wide who can be deployed to the area as and when necessary to tackle issues such as drug dealing or shoplifting."
