A man who viciously attacked Anthony Ibbitson before leaving him to die in a fire has been found guilty of murder.

Mark Vaskouski, 27, of Stroud Crescent, Hull, was found guilty of Mr Ibbitson's murder at Hull Crown Court earlier.

On 29 November 2023, Vaskouski attacked Mr Ibbitson at his home on Terry Street, before setting fire to the flat.

Mr Ibbitson was taken to hospital for treatment but died two days later.

The court heard Vaskouski had demanded drugs and money at the time of the attack and, according to Humberside Police was heard telling Mr Ibbitson to "enjoy" the fire as he fled the scene.

Det Ch Insp Amy Keane-Christie who led the investigation said the attack on Mr Ibbitson had been "needless, brutal and sustained".

She added: "Tony’s family have shown incredible strength, dignity and patience throughout the course of the investigation and court proceedings.

"Whilst it doesn’t bring Tony back, I hope they can find some peace in knowing the man responsible for his death is now behind bars.

“It is without a doubt that he [Vaskouski] is a violent and dangerous man. I am pleased he is now off our streets and can no longer cause harm in our communities."
