Firefighters tackle 'large' hay bale blaze

The hay bale fire that crews from Bedfordshire have been tackling

A fire service said it expected crews to be at a "large" hay bale fire for "some hours".

Bedfordshire Fire and Rescue Service said it broke out off the B5120, near the A5, between Houghton Regis and Toddington, at 21:54 BST on Tuesday.

Crews from Toddington, Dunstable, Woburn and Luton went to the scene, where the bales were said to be burning in a "controlled manner".

In a post on X, external at 22:55 BST on Tuesday, the fire service said it expected to be "tackling the blaze for some hours" and people were told to avoid the area.
