A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving following a multi-vehicle crash on the A1(M).
A Citroen C5 collided with a Kia Ceed and the Kia then hit a Subaru Outback towing a caravan between junctions 41 (M62) and Junction 40 near Ferrybridge at about 12:35 BST on Thursday.
West Yorkshire Police said a teenage girl, a passenger in the Kia, received serious head injuries which were being treated as life-threatening.
The force has appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them.
A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesperson said previously six ambulances, an air ambulance, a doctor and a critical care paramedic were deployed to the scene.
They said three people were taken to Leeds General Infirmary, while another three were taken to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.
The incident resulted in a full closure of the A1 between the junctions while recovery work was carried out.
A police spokesperson said: "Anyone who saw what happened or has footage, of saw the vehicles beforehand is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team."
